Eugene Bebeau Jr., MD
Gene Bebeau is a longtime practitioner and teacher of Christian Meditation who brings a grounded, compassionate presence to his work as a retreat leader, shaped by decades of contemplative practice and service. A retired anesthesiologist, he integrates attentiveness, silence, and care for the whole person into his approach to spiritual formation.
Gene has established and guided Christian meditation groups throughout the Jacksonville and St. Augustine areas and has led retreats, days of reflection, and workshops in parishes, hospitals, and retreat centers across the United States. His teaching invites participants into the practice of silence as a living form of prayer, offering simple, faithful pathways into the Christian contemplative tradition that can be sustained in daily life.
Gene is a member of the Executive Committee of the World Community for Christian Meditation–USA and has participated in formation programs with Laurence Freeman, OSB, Director of the World Community for Christian Meditation. Now living in Black Mountain, North Carolina, he continues to teach and accompany others in contemplative prayer as a way of deepening their relationship with God and the world.
